La Safor is a gorgeous area located on the mid-eastern sideboard of Spain, almost adjacent to the Balearic Islands and just below Valencia (Spain’s third largest city). La Safor is on the cusp of the northern Costa Blanca and the southern part of the Costa del Azahar. The capital of the area is Gandia (pop. 70,000) a busy and cosmopolitan town surrounded by a number of delightful smaller towns and villages that extend inland and along a stunning coast of golden, Blue Flagged beaches.

One of the few remaining traditionally “Spanish” areas along the east coast, La Safor has managed to avoid the ‘concrete jungle’ developments of elsewhere. Almost unknown to north Europeans, this stunning area has surprisingly retained property prices some 25% to 30% below those for properties around the more traditional holiday regions of Murcia, Benidorm, Alicante, Javea and Denia.
Valencia’s international airport (only 45 minutes from Gandia) has recently opened up to cheap flights thus, at last, making La Safor an inexpensive and easy region to access. Unspoilt and more beautiful than any other Spanish coastal region, La Safor will be affected by the pressure for fine affordable property that is building up from the over- developed areas of further south. This, and the extensive media coverage sponsored by the Americas Cup in 2007 (hosted by Valencia), will secure and raise future property prices.
